Screwed up big time!

Postby vaporlockv2 » Sat Mar 06, 2010 12:45 am

I accepted a gift of green star polyps and xenias. I thought that I could fit them in my tank but no matter how i arrange it, it just won't work. I now have the rock sitting in a tub with a heater and two powerheads. I have two lights on it right now. One is a 25w 6500k bulb and the other is an 18w 5000k bulb. I have a tank that I can fit into, but has only cycled for about 4 days, will the corals survive for a few days until my tank is done cycling? It is in 3 gallons of water.

They should be fine. Those are about two of the most bullet proof corals you can get. Must make sure the water doesn't get too hot. 3 gallons isn't a lot of water and it wouldn't take much to overheat it.

Why can't you just set the rock on the sandbed of your tank until your other tank is cycled?

All I have is a 24 gallon biocube, and it is crowded with live rock as it is. I was going to put it in the middle but it almost touches the glass on the front and the plastic in the back. This rock is about the size of a soccer ball

Can you put it on edge or at an angle? It doesn't have to be flat, I was just telling you what the orientation of it was in my tank so as not to put it in upside down.

try breaking it, and selling a piece, or maybe putting it in two locations

I'll try to figure out somethin, I probably could remove some of the live rock in my tank that doesn't have corals on it, and keep those in the tub until the other tank cycles.
