How about a section where we can highlight our tanks, a place to brag or detail new builds or modifications. That sort of thing?

You could call it "Our Tanks" or something else catchy.

We could discuss cutting edge ideas like the "Sugar Method"!

Big%20smile--How to get your spouse to allow a reeftank upgrade--er, perhaps not a new idea.

I like the vodka method, but doesn't always work. LOL

Why would you want to add a forum like this?  Don't we already have one ;)

Will the new forum eventually show what thread the latest post was in off to the right, like the old forum did?
This is addicting.

It does for me... Maybe you need to clean out your temporary internet files (at least the files associated with this site) or something. What browser/version are you using?

Oops.. you are right, that is what I see in the column as well. Reading your post closer, I see you want the last thread that was posted in listed as well.

No, the thread title not currently included. I don't even recall what the old forum looked like anymore, so I suppose I can't visualize having the last thread name posted as well. I assume you found that useful?

I found it very useful. Now when I see that someone has posted I wonder if I've already read it or not... so I end up checking anyways and 60% of the time I've already read it, but on the old forum I never had that problem. Just my opinion. :D

Infront of the "by Shess" you should be getting a little page that is either white when you have looked at it or it will be orange when you have something new.

If I am understanding you right.

For example it use to look like:

New Forum Suggestion
by Shess Sun Feb, 14 6:38pm

Stating what thread the last reply was posted in. If you clicked on the topic, this one being "New Forum Suggestion", it would take you to the beginning of the thread. After the topic name there was also a small arrow that would take you to the last reply posted. Is there any possibility we could do this again?

We can't do exactly what you are asking for, the work would be too much to only save you from one extra click.

Slivacki is referring to the circular icons to the right of the forums. When they are red/orange, that means there is a new post since your last visit (assuming you are automatically logged in). If it is white, then there is not a new post since your last login.

The method you are proposing only shows the topic and time of who made the last post. What if 5 other people posted in different threads, then someone posted in the thread you were interested in? Then you may ignore going in the forum because the last post was something you were NOT interested in... .then you would miss the other threads. Using the color method that we have now, you at least know there is something new in that forum you need to check out.

Either way, there are pros and cons to swithing forums. One of the cons in your case is the loss of the ability to see what the topic was of the last post in a particular forum... but at least we have much bettter speed and stability in our forums now, and it's free and not $150 every time we want to upgrade to fix a problem.

I have an idea, how about a section of reefing on a budget. Where people can list tips, hints, special deals and other things to help people that love the hobby but are a little tight on money.

Hi Gents,

I'm not sure if we need a separate section on this. I'd hate to see the forum list get too long.. it's almost getting too long already. But I do like the idea. I think the DIY section fits your description of a place to list tips and hints. Besides, just about all the information in all of the forums is geared toward tips, hints, and special deals.

Thoughts?

I'll look into it, Will. The forum does not have one built-in, so I'd have to do it custom. It's possible that someone has already done this and I can copy his/her work, but I'm not sure. It's a little lower on the priority list though, although I can see the benefit (I like using RSS feeds).

I was talking about like how to make your own calcium supplement or making your own protein skimmer. I guess that would fit under DIY though.

Is there any way that we can check to see if the reciever of a PM read a message or not? I know that on the old system there was a place that stated if it was "read" or "unread".
