I was wondering what brand of salt mix each of you are using.  I used to use Instant Ocean religously, but a couple of years ago it seems their quality went down about the same time their prices went up.  My tanks have had some issues lately, and I was wondering if it may be the salt mix I am using.

Thanks all!

Ralph

If it occurs quickly in a reef tank, it's probably bad...

Ralph,

I am going to be switching to Ocean Pure on my next bucket.

I have the same feelings about Instant Ocean.  I have tried a couple of other salts like Marine Environment (terrible salt IMO) that I thought were not as good as IO.  Leroy at GARF has been using Ocean Pure and has had good luck with it so I figured I would give it a try.

Thanks,

Scott

I have similar feelings, been using I.O. since the beginning but the last bucket or 2 haven't seem to great.  They dissolve poorly and have a bunch of crap left that never dissolves.  Don't know if its related but things don't perk up as well as they used to after a water change either.  I also wonder about all the problems I've heard about after water changes that "might " have been the I.O salt.  Once i use whats left i plan to change to what my LFS recommends.

I just switched from I.O. to Reef Crystals (also made by Aquarium Systems/Marineland)

Everything is looking good so far.

I have not tested personally the other salt brands, but have heard pretty good customer feedback for OceanPure.

I did quite a bit of research on salts before switching from I.O. and talked to a lot of people.  From what I gathered, many people have been very happy with both Reef Crystals and OceanPure.

OceanPure, however, is cheaper and easier to find around here.

Maybe I'll have to setup another little nano tank and give OceanPure a test run.  Also have heard good things about Seachem's new Reef Salt.  I would like to give that a test too.
