Sand Bed Calculatorby Scott Morell This Sand Bed Calculator is designed to help determine the amount of aragonite substrate needed for your tank. Just enter the length, width, and depth of sand desired and the calculator will display the amount of aragonite needed. I recommend covering a plenum with 4 inches of CaribSea Seaflor Special Grade Reef Sand. For other sand beds the depth ranges from as little as no sand to 6 or more inches. Types of sand beds is something that you should do a lot of research on before building. If you talk to me, I will say go plenum, Kim usually says DSP, Mike Paletta will say a shallow sand bed no more than 1-1/2 inches deep... The calculator bases the weight of the aragonite sand on Carib-Sea's estimate of 70 lbs. per square foot. |
